Ah, the bummers of being an artist

Well didn't make that contest. I did some changes to the painting and to the photography. That is always such a battle. I get discouraged sometimes and go back and rethink everything. Changed one background area that was bugging me but because it was entered I couldn't change it until the rejection notification (so to speak) came in. I always think of wildlife artist Greg Beecham 's motto “Do all things as unto the Lord, and get so good you can’t be ignored.”
Working on a new painting that is another kind of rainbow. It is a rose with a background of tons of colors.

This is my entry into the Paint the Parks this year. I did it from a great photo by David Irvine but I could still "feel" this place! It brought back incredible memories of a vacation at Lake Powell in the 60's. It was far different than it is today. The water levels were lower and the canyons were amazing. It was a very scary trip, though. The first thing that happened was that as my Dad was floating the boat off the trailer in the launch area, his wallet plopped out fell in the water. I just happed to see it and screamed. He managed to get it. In those days there wasn't any one there. We camped out on tiny beaches with scorpions and the buzzards watched us on the tops of high places. We got stuck twice in a small old style jet boat. Once in the narrow high-walled canyons we stalled and knew no one would ever find us there! My brother, a diver, jumped in and pulled a log out that the jet had sucked up into it. Then we got out of there and ran out of gas in the middle of the lake.I remember watching the same cliff for hours on end as we floated, in the heat with minimal water or food, hoping someone would hear our horn or see our orange life jackets. Whew! Then one boat came and got us and took us to Rainbow Bridge Marina. What a relief! I remember eating the best freshest potato chips I had ever eaten there. Kids remember the dumbest things! Someday I will paint those canyons!
